Welcome to the Kiwi Calls website. I am thrilled to tell you about my book, When the Kiwi Calls, a real-life account of our 46-day self drive vacation in New Zealand. Lots of interesting leads and useful tips for travelers of all ages are included, and, if you are over 55 as we are, I hope you’ll consider some of the suggestions.

Sam and I love traveling. Especially the long, leisurely kind, when you can throw away your watch and just follow your dreams. Soon after we were married in South Africa in the ‘60s, we worked and traveled abroad for a year and a half. Now, nearly 40 years later, the opportunity presented itself again. We locked up our home in Israel, and took off for four and a half months in Australia, New Zealand, and California.

In New Zealand we decided to try something new, namely, to stay in backpacker hostels. What a great idea! We were comfortable, we met lots of nice people, and we didn’t fork out a ton of money for accommodations. We also decided to rent a slightly older car, and that, too, was a good idea. I really urge you to look at different options before saying, “Naw – I can’t afford to travel.” If you really want to hit the road, there is a way.

I am very excited that my New Zealand travel tale is out there. I hope you will enjoy reading the book and coming along for the ride. It was such an incredible, awesome experience that I want to share it with everyone. But beware - the kiwi’s call may be contagious!
